To Bring the Opportunity to Publish to More High School Students

The Horizon Academic Research Program is thrilled to announce our new partnership with The Journal for Emerging Investigators! The Journal for Emerging Investigators (JEI) is a leading academic journal that provides high school students with the opportunity to engage in scientific research, undergo peer review, and, for selected papers, get published in an academic journal. Horizon Academic is pleased to announce our partnership with JEI to democratize the opportunity to do academic research for high school students and for exceptional high school research to be published.

On September 10th, Horizon Academic invited a select number of its current students and alumni to join a special presentation given by the Managing Editors of JEI, Mr. Michael Mazzola and Ms. Laura Doherty. During their session on September 14th, Michael and Laura offered an overview of the process of drafting a publishable manuscript, the mechanisms of peer review, and an inside perspective on research publication opportunities for high school students. JEI maintains a selective process by which the best manuscripts that describe hypothesis-based research are admitted to JEI, and students accepted to work with JEI have the opportunity to work with PhD mentors at universities such as Harvard, as well as 30 of the world’s leading institutions.

JEI was founded in 2011 as a student organization at Harvard by a pair of graduate students at Harvard Medical School. Since its founding, JEI became a volunteer-driven NGO, working to empower young scientists to conduct academic research and learn from the process of peer revision and publication. JEI works with about 400 students from more than 20 countries each year, powered by the volunteer participation of 180 PhD candidates from 30 universities around the world.
