Decoding High School Computer Science Summer Research Options at Horizon Academic

February 24, 2023

Horizon Academic continues to be attentive and responsive to the latest trends, discoveries, and directions in the field of computer science. Given the wide range of specialties high school students can explore when conducting independent research, this article intends to help high schoolers unpack the differences between the diverse computer science research projects and courses available at Horizon Academic Research Program. From our Seminar options: Algorithms & Data Structures, Data Science & Machine Learning, Machine Learning & Social Media, and Cybersecurity, to our Labs choices: Machine Learning & Biotechnology, Computational Neuroscience, and Applications of Machine Learning, the following break-down will better equip high schoolers to make an informed decision on which course suits their needs and interests best.

Studying Computer Science Research Topics in our Seminar Track

Our Seminar offerings touch on various branches of computer science and welcome high school students from all coding backgrounds. While they certainly cater to high school students who come with little to no familiarity with programming languages, they also include more complex research project alternatives for advanced high school students.

Choosing between Computer Science Research Opportunities through the Labs Track

Our Labs offerings within the discipline of computer science are more academically rigorous and demanding. Given that the research projects are more specialized, high school students are expected to have a working familiarity with at least one programming language.
